Screaming Hard drive

Still working on the same SE.

Besides the brightness being way too high there is another very annoying problem.

The 40mb drive makes a horrible metalic screeching noise - sounds like ecto-1 from ghost busters !!!!


The drives works great even pass's apple diagnostics

Is there any way to fix this

I imagine its a dry bearing - cant be the heads touching the platter

the head says "drop of wd40" ...... the brain says noooo

any ideas !!

What model of drive is it? The particular manufacturer drives recommendations, I think, as they each have their own maladies.

Also - just verifying, but gotta ask the question - you're certain it's not the fan? I've heard that the original SE squrrel cage blowers can make some spectacular rackets.
