Restoring files from dormant HFS volumes (Bring out yer dead!)

Hey there gang.

Some time back I was able to take several of my old Macs for a spin and they started up fine still (a couple needed a bit of stiction-push).  However, I had 'prepared' them by deleting a lot of personal data and applications for a useful next life.  That life never happened, obviously, and now I'd like to grab that data back.

I'm interested in abandonware that I could use. What do you recommend?

The systems are as follows:

  • LC (System 6.0.8   )
  • LC II (System 7.1)
  • SE (System 6.0.8  )
  • Quadra 700 (System 7.5.5)
  • Color Classic (System 7.6.1)
  • PowerMac 8500 (System 9.2.2 - OS9Forever boot-patched)

I can easily remove the drives from the smaller Macs and put in an external drive on the 8500 if that makes content recovery and program compatibility easier.

Thanks!

Norton Unerase is the main one I remember, it came with Norton Utilities (and Norton SystemWorks) which is easy to find on the Garden. Definitely pull the drives out and hook them up externally, don't boot off of them.
