Remove Speaker on SE/30

Reasons.

6502
I'm looking to retrobrite a couple of SE/30s I've recently acquired, and I was wondering if anyone could tell be how to remove the speaker. I figure it's probably not good to let it soak in hydrogen peroxide. There's four tabs holding it on, but two of them are melted to hold it in place. Is this normal, and am I just going to have to break it to get it out? Thanks for your help.

it was melted into place when built - you can melt them back, It is ABS plastic , grab a soldering iron, gently melt back the central mass of the plastic - bit at a time - it will retreat and the speaker will come free,

-

when reassemble you have 2 choices - leave the melted plastic alone and depend on the 2 screws - or use the 2 screws and remelt the plastic back - use small movements - any fast and long movements will result in strings

-

these remelted 'lugs' are pointless as they will excerpt no downward force on the speaker to prevent ratteling

-

ive done it - it works - plastic at end will never look the same - have had no rattles yet - ........... feck it... just break them off.....

-

good luck

I am JUST in the process of retrobriting one of my SE/30s at the moment (and have done one in the past). Basically, yes...just snap the speaker out of there. On my first model, I used a very tiny amount of super glue (Gorilla Glue) when reinstalling the speaker - just enough to keep it from rattling but not enough to make future removal an impossibility. I'm debating as to whether or not I'll even bother on this latest one. The speaker doesn't really rattle. Might just lean it in there. Anyway, please share pics when you're done! I'll take a few of mine if I can be bothered. :)
