One of the ports on my recently purchased PowerBook is dead. It is the 2nd to last AlBook G4 12" with the 1.5GHz processor. I was wondering if there were any troubleshooting steps I should try before looking into a logic board replacement?
Usually there's a fuse for each USB port, maybe check those? If not probably a short circuit that burnt the controller, logic board replacement would probably be the best route if it's not the fuses
Each USB port has a dedicated constant-current IC, that is SMBus controlled, etc.. switches on and off the power to USB port, and monitors current draw from the port. its a little 8 pin IC, ive seen them in both TSSOP and SOIC packages. These are accessed by the power management unit.
