Radius Telecast/VideoVision graphics card equivalent to ... ? ?

Hi all,

I recently acquired a (dud) 7100/80AV, with Radius VideoVision Nubus cards (this includes the additional Telecast card + VideoVision memory and VideoVision Studio daughtercards).  This particular card has VGA and DB15 out and when plugged in would give me what appeared to be fast, 24-bit video.

The question is - if I used this purely as a graphics card in my 840AV, does anyone know what the card is equivalent to in terms of consumer Radius graphics card performance?  Eg. same as a PrecisionColor, Thunder card ... ?

Interesting question, has omidimo posted the manuals for VideoVision Studio yet?

It's not really the same kind of thing as the VidCards you mentioned from what I recall. The DA-15/monitor out is the video card setup's display, not so much the computer's display. That allows for full frame video playback at 640x480 that's impossible to do over NuBus or by the 840AV which limited to 320x240 playback even on its internal video IIRC.

The videovison output has low resolution so using it as a main video output isn't a good idea.

I have not gotten to scanning the RVVS manuals yet, but they are in the queue. The manual does not have any hard specs outside of monitors/resolutions supported. I even dug up pix of my sealed box RVVS (stored away) and there was no mention of the display support features. Inside the manual I got this basic info; the RVVS supported up-to 1152x870, it was meant as a support/secondary display than a primary display.

A Thunder, or PrecisionColorPro would be a better choice.

Thanks - so I could reasonably assume the VideoVision is good for low resolution, high-colour output but probably not accelerated.  I didn't have any Radius software installed (nor did it offer me to press "T" at startup to select a resolution), but the Monitors control panel wouldn't let me select resolutions greater than 640 x 480 even though it offered 13/14/16 and multisync monitor profiles.  Mind you, I was using an AppleVision 1710 monitor which is another odd beast.

Install the VideoVision Monitor extension to control the resolutions.

Almost certainly no QuickDraw acceleration, that card's all about VidCap and Video Playback acceleration.
