Quietest SCSI hard drive?

yeah what Superdos mentioned is acutely a Seagate Savvio Drive,  They are 04-07,  2.5"  From 36gb to 73gb. (going by what i have seen for sale),  i was told about these drives from james, from this forum. Quiet, Yes --- Smaller, Yes --- Low Power? 800ma on the 12 rail is not terrable. Heat? yes, you better have some form of cooling, not the kind of hd i would install in an enclosure with out a fan. Termination?   No.  You have to provide that… and that is where Max's (max1zzz) adaptors come in for vintage mac, making this drive an exceptional SCSI choice.

not a Savvio, just an eServer pSeries drive. 3.5" rebranded UltraStar, pretty much. SaveMyServer on eBay sells them for mega cheap.

if you were to into a Savvio though, you could probably get away with using a 2.5" to 3.5" all metal adapter-- Rosewill sells one for $12 on Newegg with a thermal pad that I've used already for a WD Scorpio Black 500, a rather warm running modern drive-- keeps the sucker under 29C at all times with indirect airflow contact in a Dell box I'm messing with.

yes but what i am saying is regardless of what you call them.. Seagate makes them. They are a Savvio drive.

I noticed the price up goes up and down.

i usually try to buy 50 or so at a time.

That's an xSeries, a completely different beast of drives for a completely different beast of servers.

The drives I'm talking about are SCSI 80-pin and are made by Hitachi. their model number is HUS153073VL3800 and the IBM FRU is 03N5260.

From what I understand, they were rebadged as pSeries drives for the POWER based servers in IBM's lineup.

Also, I'm pretty sure the reason you can't see any more from savemyserver is because I bought their last one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181475099364

BUT, punching 03N5260 or the model of the drive brings up numerous other results with prices that are not bad... can't guarantee anything won't be DOA though. I'm a returning customer to SMS for that same reason.

You do bring up a point, however-- you need to watch for the SAS drives on eBay too, they're more common than the U320 SCA drives, they will NOT work, and you can find yourself accidentally buying one all too easy.
