Quadra 700 doesn't fully boot with RasterOps card installed

I just got a RasterOps 24L (ROM 1.1) from eBay, and the seller claimed it as working (removed from a IIvx), and when installed in my Quadra 700 (running 7.5.5) it freezes part way through booting - just after the welcome to macintosh screen.

I've tried these things with no luck:

• installing RasterOps drivers (3.3)

• zapping the PRAM

• booting with extensions off

I've not yet tested it in another Mac - I could try my IIci.

A visible inspection of the board doesn't reveal any obvious hardware issues.

Anyone got any ideas?

Monitor you're using? VGA Adapter? Very odd card, never heard of a NuBus VidCard with DIP switches for setting the resolution. Could be because it offers 1024 x 768 @60Hz. There could be a monitor ID conflict involved, dunno if that's enough to hang the system. ROM version sounds very early, date?

Definitely try it in another Mac after trying it in the other slot.

Are you using a 601 Upgrade card? I had a similar problem with Radius card once, had to get the drivers in order for both the upgrade and video card.

Omidimo: no 601 card (would like one tho!)

Trash: I'm using a VGA adapter with a small LCD - they work fine with its internal video. Yeah seems early. I'll check the date and get back to you.

I've tried both slots - so my next move will be to try in the IIci

Before the Futura II series (E-machines last consumer cards) there were Futura (no II) cards with a little rotary switch for setting the resolution - electrically equivalent to a bank of DIP switches.

If it's convenient, I'd try the card in the IIci. Could the ROM be too early for the Quadra?

So it does seem to work in the IIci, although it doesn't like my LCD monitor much!

Thanks for the suggestions and help

trag: I didn't know that was a thing - useful to know - thank you

I'm going to investigate further - will test with more monitors etc
