Powermac G5 throwing error messages and blinking LEDs

While my G5 quad is down for a LCS rebuild, I am trying to see if my copy of 10.6 (PPC build) will boot on my dual 2.0. Unfortunately I am running into issues.

When I tried booting off of the SSD from my G5 quad, I initially get a folder with a flashing "?" followed briefly by the happymac. A moment later I get a message saying that I need to restart my Mac. I've restarted several times to no avail.

I've previously had some luck with G5's by popping the RAM and going through stick by stick to see if there is bad RAM - it came with three 1GB sticks and 1x 128MB stick. However, now, no matter what stick I use I have no video and a pulsing power LED every 4 seconds. After being left on for several minutes, I saw the light pulse quickly three times. That occurred exactly once. So I have two issues and I am not really sure how to troubleshoot. Any help would be much appreciated.

I’m honestly not sure how it would boot any OS with the RAM configuration in question. I know both of my G5 towers require RAM to be installed in matching pairs, and I’m fairly certain that applies to every model of G5. You cannot to my knowledge pair up a 128MB stick with a 1GB stick, and cannot use either of them without an identical matching partner.

Assuming you have a matching pair of identical spec 1GB sticks, it should work (at least for 10.4 and 10.5) with one of them in the bottom slot of the upper bank and the other in the top slot of the lower bank.

Try 10.5 official before using third-party hacks of PPC 10.6, see if any RAM issues arise here.
