Hey all,
I recently received a Powermac 7600 / 120, Performa 631CD and a 16" monitor. These machines were used by my father for his accounting and typesetting in his print shop in the '90s. I always took it upon myself to install the latest demos, Ircle and get my first exposure to HTML and scripting in the late '90s. Can't forget about After Dark and the prank plugins.
These mean a lot to and are very sentimental. My dad waited until I was 30 years old before he gave them to me, though they were useless long ago... I believe he actually used them up until 2010. The Powermac has an old version of Quark Xpress, Adobe Illustrator and Acrobat.
I can't believe how much dust I blew out of everything... Cleaning the boxes made the corner of my room smell like old cigarettes and must... ahh, smelled like home, admittedly.
I remember installing games like Monkeyshines, Factory, DirtBike, Bolo, PizzaRush, Maelstrom and Apeiron. When we got the Powermac I remember the excitement that I could run Shadow Warrior and some flight simulator.
The Powermac 7600 booted up once and crashed launching Illustrator last weekend. It had one bad stick of ram and bad cache that took me a while to troubleshoot. G3 daughter card. The hard drives spin up, CD rom works. It has a Rage Pro (I think) video card. I hope get an ADB to USB converter working for file transfers, replace the HDD with an SD card and hook this up to the internet and IRC with it.
The Performa 631 needs the ADB port repaired. I did not try to boot this one yet.
The 16" monitor from 1993 started up fine. It's a little dim and slightly offset on the X axis.
I still have a collection of 44MB SyQuests with old games and documents that I'm going to resurrect soon.
Thanks for having me here at 68kMLA.
