Yup! Thanks to Bunsen here, he alerted all of us to 33/66Mhz 68040 PowerBook processors, I finally had the enthusiasm to fix all the problems with the PowerBook 520 (Yui-Ikari) that I have as a 68k webserver. Right now, I am typing on a FULLY RESTORED Powerbook and it runs great! They keyboard sucks though. But thats the inherent nature of the old Powerbook keyboards.
First issue I had was the screen. The screen's contrast constantly adjusted. Annoyed the hell out of me. While stripping the thing down to rebuild, I took apart the screen. It was totally FILLED with dust in it. No idea how, but it really was a lot. I took a can of air and blew that stuff out. I also took the connectors and blew them out with the air, and pulled the LCD out of the plastics and blew the dust out of there. I put that all together and it works great! No more contrast fade!
Second issue:
Floppy. The stupid floppy wouldn't eject. It had this issue prior to me getting it. While putting it back together, I contemplated out to get the system together RIGHT. Probably has a lot to do with the issue down below. When putting it together, i figured out the floppies mounting points has to be on TOP of the top plastic screw areas. So once I got that squared away, I moved onto the next area
Screws:
Like HALF of the screws in this laptop were missing. I don't know who worked on this, but it was practically falling apart. Well no more! I scrounged up soem screws and now it fits nice and tight. The screen was all floppy. One of the screws was loose, and the other was not even there :-/
It works great, save for the crappy keyboard that it's got. But that's not a fault of this laptop, it's a fault of apple
All in all, it's turning out to be a very nice machine
