portable turns off after 2 minutes

Hello people

Took down one of my  macintosh portable's to play with

It shuts down after 2 minutes!!!

I have timed it......... 2 minutes and boom - gone

Even if the system has not booted (screen with disc icon) so its not software

I fully recapped this machine last year and probally never left it on any longer as I was working on 2 of them at the time

there is a bank of 4 dip switches next to the drive connectors - wondering if they have anything to do with it

anybody see this before?

That is strange. Happens from disk tools disk as well?

I boot it with the 6.08 boot - gets to the desktop and boom

just found another problem - if I try adjust the volume in the control panel... boom... same thing - just instant power off

does anyone know what those 4 dip switches are for

I have tried it with just the original power supply , then the power supply plus the original battery. I amazingly have a mac portable battery that charged up when i bought the computer 2 years ago. Thats why I took it down , to charge up the battery. Last time I had it down (from the attic) this portable would run on just its original battery (after it got a good charge)

Just looking at the apple power supply - model - 5136B. Its been plugged in, charging the battery, and man this thing is hot

Cant see any screws to open it - must be sonic welded like the battery.

Wondering if the powersupply is failing - has anyone opened one of these before? are there components in these that need replacing?

Is there an easy to see if the power supply is failing?

Sounding like a PSU issue to me maybe?

When the speaker is getting power it shuts off... 

Wild guess but maybe it could be that. Was that recapped as well?

Oh yeah thats what your saying! Probably could be that then.

When you recapped this thing, did you wash/clean the board REALLY WELL? the Hybrids have a frightening failure rate. 

Also its normal for portables to drop back into standby even when sitting at the OS not found screen. its built into the Mits PMU.

i looked for the forum for portables - where is it techknight?

board is 'spotless' !!

i only timed it at the ' OS not found '  screen techknight - thats where i was getting the 2 minutes

if its longer/ different times in the os then that makes it something overheating
