PM6500 max RAM?

All the sites I have seen say that the 6500 tops out at 128MB but I know the official max is often not the actual limit.  It is easy to get a couple 128MB simms that SHOULD work in this machine but I was wondering if anyone had tried it.

I would suspect it's a ROM limitation or addressing issue; it'd be unexpected if there was a Mac that could address more than listed that wasn't known about already.

I recall reading years back that the 5500 (which uses the same logic board but in an AIO) could unofficially support 128MB DIMMs to give a maximum of 256Mb... that being said, i cannot verify the legitimacy of these claims. Unfortunately I am not even in a position to test the theory, as even though i now have 128Mb DIMMs that i didnt back then, I no longer have a fully functioning 5500 as a testbed. :(

It's always been known to be 128MB RAM max. in 5500 and 6500 and TAM machines, 5400 and 6400 has 8MB RAM solderered therefore could attain 136MB but nothing above that.  Assume ROM limitation; with all the ROM hacking that has been going on though, I'd love 256MB in my TAM :)

The 5500 and 6500 have pads for another bank of RAM (the 8 MB bank from the 5400/6400).  I think that if one could find the correct chips, which I've seen once on an old memory DIMM, one could get 32 MB into that extra bank, taking the maximum to 160 MB.
