My g4 stated turning off about 10 seconds after the start button is pushed. You can hear the start up chime and and then in 5-7 seconds it shuts down. Have to hit the reset button to get it going. Any ideas?
While your at it give your system a good internal cleaning. No one does this often enough, yet the benefits of doing so often lead to a longer lasting and more stable computer.
i installed ram in mine and it did the same thing. i removed it and installed it again and reset the nvram/pram and after that is ran fine.
yea like the above post said check the PSU cause it could be on its way out. dust can kill a system cause it can conduct electricity.
another thing to do is to double check all of the cable connections to the mobo and the devices inside to make sure they are all connected properly.
remove and reseat the PCI cards, check the front board (the power button board) to make sure nothing is in there tricking it to turn back off. cause when you turn the system on you can hit the power button and it will turn back off.
i hope you resolve the issue and get the yikes back up and running.
Will check those things out. If it is the power supply, can a pc power supply work on a G4. Is there a jumper on the motherboard like the G3 Beige? Are all G4 models using the same ps?
