Plus Just Won't Boot.

Today I received the Mac Plus from mcdermd (Thanks again!). Plugged everything in, got a "bing", short "whirr" from the floppy drive, screen came on, but never got a blinking floppy or happy Mac. It just sits there on a grey screen. Judging by the fact that it "bing"s and the screen comes on, the analog board is fine, but something happened to the logic board. Should I try slapping in my 512kE's LoBo and see what happened?

Also worth noting that I did reseat the RAM and the ROM but I didn't work.

Click here to see a YouTube video of the problem

i think you got taken by mcdermd LOL hahaha just kidding

its probably analog board… and a joint that has become odd… bang it real hard on the side… it will probably fire up.

What? It worked fine before I shipped it. I've tested each one with a system disk. It takes a few for the 4 MB of RAM to count. How long did you wait for it? The video isn't long enough to see it finish. You'll see the mouse pointer appear once it has finished it's RAM check.

These kids and there patience, couldn't even wait for memory test geez. Lol }:)

Mine with a battery in for first time takes thirty five seconds with four megabytes of ram, after first boot the battery saves information and it boots faster like in 15 seconds. So the batteries are good for something lol.

Maybe he is in the process of carefully troubleshooting the internals.

maybe blow it out with a air compressor if mcdermd hasn't already.

Now, now. Be nice guys. I'd like to figure out if there is really something wrong or not. There shouldn't be anything to blow out. They are all clean, inside and out.

Before I made the video I let it sit on the gray screen for 2 minutes to see what it would do. It sat at the same screen. I didn't let it sit for after I reseated the RAM, so that could have been it.

I'll try reseating the RAM again and let it sit to see what it does.

Strange. I reseated the RAM and only had wait 15 seconds until I saw the floppy icon. I don't know what happened, but it just wouldn't work before. I thought I might have had to do a recap on the LoBo.

Thanks for everyones help!

The beep and the grey screen means it has passed POST and is counting RAM. Sometimes that 30 seconds can feel like minutes.

Probably.

I do have to say mcdermd the inside is REALLY clean. Did you blow it out with a compressor? I couldn't find a signal spec of dust inside. It looks great!
