Pismo Conquest!!!

I just picked up another old faithful model. This will be the 2nd or third pismo that I have owned. Now I just need more ram and bigger hd! That, and I have to go and find my old one which should still have the memory in it. I hope. PS: if anyone has any of these, let me know 8-)

This model has sentimental value, seeing as this was the computer that I had during most of high school, good and bad lol.

This one is the 400mhz and I think stock ram, but I have 2 batteries to test.

The only issue I have is its not wanting to boot any OS disks. But I'm going to try an OS 9 Disk here soon so we will see...

Pismos are nice. I had to fix one a long time ago, wish I could have one. (So expensive...not so cheap)

Pretty much the closest thing Apple ever made to a Thinkpad or Latitude. The last expandable Powerbook too...

Me thinks Wallstreet = Latitude }:)

...seeing as I own one of each. (and they both take the same expansion bays; CD, Floppy, Zip 100)

Also, they both appear to be made of bricks and cement.

If you have to get a HD for it, consider the OWC solid state drive - a 30 gb one is around $60. That's my next Pismo purchase, as soon as one of my drives fails...

Or, on the cheap side, Tony ZZ on eBay usually has 10gb used drives for around $20 or so...I have had good service from him for a wide variety of Pismo parts. Of course, he also has RAM if you need that too.

I think that which Apple you compare to the Latitude depends a lot on which Lats you've owned. In my case, I've got an Inspiron 8200 which, in some ways, is even more impressive than a Wallstreet, OTOH, I've also owned an Inspiron 3700 which was definately in the Lombard/Pismo camp.

(Note to those not familiar with Dell laptops- There are three basic lines: Latitude (business), Inspiron (consumer), and Precision (mobile workstation). For many years (and still true except for the Inspiron), all three lines shared hardware based on the then-current Latitude line. Therefore, one may speak of a Latitude C, D or E series and also be referring to an Inspiron of similar vintage.)

The one place where Dell and IBM differed from Apple is in having a consistent architecture across lines as opposed to a having completely different lines for consumer and business. Dell had its Latitude/Inspiron/Precision and IBM had its A (desktop replacement), T (thin notebook), and X (ultra-thin) lines. In a world without Steve, the iBook would probably have shared design cues, modular bays, batteries and perhaps even a docking station with the PowerBook Lombard and Pismo.

I was finally able to get it to boot into OS 9! I have a question, this is the first tie I have seen an aftermarket battery. For some reason the check light on the side stays on, any ideas on how to turn it off or does the battery just need to be rejuvinated?

I was referring to my Latitude C810. I like the same hardware across lines. The Inspiron expansion bays are half the price of the Latitude bays and are exactly the same (for the c810 at least), guess which I bought?

My personal favorite of that series was the C600 series vs. the C800 series, because they were half of the size with about 90% of the power. They even had a dock that included a monitor stand and 2 PCI slots. In my opinion, the C600 series is as close to the pismo design in the PC world.

Well, I actually had a 60 that I had forgotten about, but the old HD wasn't plugged in. Now I just need memory, and to upgrade the wavelan from bronze to gold.

Well, I just managed to get it online. I'm sort of borrowing an AirPort card, and managed to scavenge 256mb of ram. I forgot how much fun this thing was to use, especially to type. I'm taking it to work wiht me tomorrow, and I'm gonna put probably Tiger on it, so it will have some compatibility.

I've got some writting to to, and this thing will be perfect!
