Original Macintosh with 512k upgrade

This one is a beauty that is almost flawless. An original Macintosh from late April 1984 with 512k memory upgrade. Some of you may have seen this type of upgrade already but it's new to me and very well done. Normally I would try to undo the upgrade and bring it back to stock but this is done very well so it will stay as is. It's got the original bucket, 400k internal drive and original ROMs. The only difference is a couple of extra parts and the socketed RAM chips. Was this a professional upgrade that anyone is aware of?

I'll take a pic tomorrow but it came with the original keyboard, mouse and bag along with a third-party 800k floppy drive (I assume it runs like a 400k also), programmers reset buttons and an original Apple 10 pack paper floppy box with Mac Paint and Mac Write in it.

The ad showed it working and I don't doubt the seller sold it on good faith but sadly, it does have a flaw. Intermittent video. It did not come up immediately. I had it open and double checked the insertion of chips and plugs and had it working once and it worked insanely great but when I closed it up, video did not work again. Totally black but still beeps and boots up. I'll have to look further into it tomorrow but an awesome package just the same for less than three figures.

Yes, you're right! Talks about the resistor network added to the 6522 and the extra little mux board. It's in Larry Pina's "Macintosh Repair an Upgrade Secrets" book. I've only really used that book for Lisa's. I should read it for the Macintosh side now :)

Kijiji. It's no NeXTstation mono but I at least got it for less ;) Got lucky with this find for sure.

I believe I saw an external floppy drive that goes with it on 'Jiji as well.

 
I don't usually disclose what I pay for something but I did pay LESS than $80. At $750, that other one is going to stay there a very long time. I found this one just after the one I purchased from Uniserver but just couldn't pass it up for the price. Except for a slight crack on one of the face plate corners that vanishes when closed, this thing is pristine.

I am almost certain the video issue resulted from transport. I can take the case off and everything works fine. When I put the case back on, the video doesn't work. The odd time, it will not work with the case off and I can see that there is no glow on the CRT neck. Video on or off, the machine boots normally. I think it's a loose CRT neck connector or a disturbed solder joint?

I've also had discussions with the Lisa owner on Kijiji. He's a great guy and will come down some but it's missing only the power supply and you'll have to pick it up. Unfortunately, with something this old, you never know what you're going to get.

I must of missed it then. There have been some 512s that have popped up recently, as well as a couple of original Apple canvas bags for the Compact series. I just wish someone would list an Apple I I I.

I've seen the Lisa ad; sounds like a good restoration project for anyone who has some extra cash on hand.
