Need help with my Monitor! URGENT

Hi all,

Just got my IIgs monitor back together. It works.

Sort of.

I see slightly slanted black thick lines on the screen (attached photo), and a squashed pixelated display, with no thick borders. :(

Could this be a capacitor issue? I would think they would have blown up Or something. Cable issue? ?????? ?

I've got no clue what this could be except something maybe near the VOT is it?

Please help! I need this good to go by next month!

It looks good and sounds good with no popping or explosions or smoke or smells.

The actual IIgs has a new reactive micro PSU but I don't see how that could affect it...?

I'll add that on the video board there's one capacitor that was really super close to a joint and they had the one single pad connecting them so I soldered both together. I'm reading this is probably the issue.?

Also all caps were replaced, I'm gonna say polarity was correct since no popping or explosions. The ONLY thing that I could have messed up was that one little joint as described. Im waiting on some photos from someone else, but if anyone else has an IIgs monitor and doesn't mind getting photos, that would be awesome!

Here's what I think is causing it...

The bottom shiny solder joint. Actually it's to the right since it's rotated.

It's just connecting a cap and resistor... the ones above it are not connecting like this one. I was assuming they are supposed to be soldered together since there's one pad connecting gem but maybe I'm wrong. It would make since...

I can't really comment on the solder joint, as I've never opened mine up.  Perhaps you've already tried, but occasionally, my IIgs screen looks just like that and I have to adjust the knobs for vertical on the back to fix it up.

Hmmm... I do remember turning those knobs out of adjustment. Ill try that once I get home and hopefully thats the issue!!! Thanks for that!

HAHA YES THANK YOU! I got it!!!

I had to just mess with vertical hold and a little horizontal!!! Now it's nice and clear!

In the attached photo there are two little apples. There's only one but I think it was moving too fast for the camera?

Now looking at the photo vertical size is a little off so once the rest of the stuff is ready I'll adjust it better.

Aha!  Very good fine sir.  I think I'm going to need to take mine apart for maintenance soon, as well!  Were any of your caps leaking?

Nope! These caps in the gs and monitor are very durable. The bigger caps were starting to bulge but the rest were fine. It's going on display for a few hours next month and I didn't want it breaking then! I also have it retrobrite and as you can see it's looking nice!

PLEASE look in your IIgs power supply! Mine had a cap with a gigantic bulge that was about to blow! Get a universal PSU!

They're great monitors these, I'm currently trying to rig up an adapter to get it working off an Amiga - native 15khz display should look great.
