Mac Plus video issue

Hi!

I am looking for purchasing an Analog Board for my dead Mac Plus. I've found a seller who offer dead Mac Plus with white and black bars on screen. I want to ask you, guys, if you know, is it a problem of Logic Board or a problem of Analog Board? I want to ask the seller to extract Analog Board from this machine, so I need to know if it is working or not. Here is a photo.

PS: By the way, what's a device on top?

looks to me like a logic board issue, the device on top could be a fan, but don't know why there is a label for printer as well.

 
Thanks for info about logicboard caps—the same issue was on my Mac Classic II, I recapped it and it works well. So I think there is the same situation, so try to contact the seller if he will able to send me only Analog Board part.

PS: I've found what is that device: Kensington System Saver, "This is a must for keeping your old Mac protected by cooling and protecting against surges , as well as added extra power ports and handy buttons to control what is powered".

 
Yup, Kensington System Saver sounds right! Very cool devices (no pun intended). Helps keep your Plus cool, while also giving you a few power receptacles with switches to control them!

Wonder if the "master" switch on the front controls the Plus' power. As in, if you leave the power switch on the plus in the "on" position all the time, but then you can control power to it using the master button, would be kind of cool-makes the power button more convenient.

 
ram could go bad in the plus, and A/B board but as Bibilit said logic board rarely ever sees issues on the plus.

 
I agree with bibilit, the caps on the Plus Logic Board are not prone to failure (contrary to those on the SE/30, Classic & Classic II)

Corrosion/oxydation from battery leakage very unlikely either (given the location of the battery holder)

I'd say bad video chip. Corrupted RAM is very likely too! But I'm certainly not a technician. I don't think this analog board related though. Again, can't be 100% sure but given the peculiar pattern on the display, I don't think an analog component could be at fault.

Plus that Kensington System Saver protects the Analog board components from overheating (it's basically a fan). A unit with such a device should have a more preserved Analog Board.

I don't know where you are located but I wouldn't spend much on this unit. I'm not saying you should not buy it, not at all, but if the seller wants more than 50 bucks, I'd try to negotiate a little.

 
Thanks, guys, for your expertise. I will think twice before buying, because to the price of the board I'll need to add a price of shipping (an expensive thing). Probably, I should wait for a more clear offers, or, at least, for offers in my city, to avoid abroad shipping costs.

 
Shipping prices to close countries within the EU are actually quite fair compared to the ginormous fee I got from DHL when I imported my 512k Hyperdrive from the States.
