Mac Plus analog board insulator card.

Hi all,

Quick question: I need to reattach the insulator card to my Mac Plus analog board. It was originally attached with double sided foam tape. What do you use to attach it with?

I have some double sided foam tape but I'm not sure how it will react when the Mac heats up.

Thanks,

Daniel

Is that the bit of card at the back?

Mine was held on with 4 little clips that were a pain to get off and then get back on without breaking them.

In the past I have found the double sided adhesive foam for sale at Radio Shack. It's held up as well as the original.

It's sold in one of those packages with a cardstock back, and rectilinear clear plastic front, which can hand on a pegboard. It comes in strips about 3" - 4" long.

I do not know if RS still stocks it.

Later models have the four clips. To remove them, gently squeeze the tips on the interior side with a small pliers and push them through. To reinstall, just push back in from the outside.

The problem with the tape (according to Pina) is that it's a pain to remove, especially as the machines can get hot and bake the stuff on, both to the card and to the rear of the board, especially the top piece where it's hottest. He recommends three pieces of tape (like they originally had), but a slightly different location for the top piece. I suppose you could use a rivet punch to punch four small holes in the board where the later models had the plastic clips and use plastic clips instead. That would be much preferable to tape, I would think.

I'll get that page for you.

Thanks everyone.

I see that Scotch and 3M both advertise tape which is designed for use up to 220 degrees fahrenheit.

I guess if temperatures go as high as that in a Mac Plus, there's more to worry about than a bit of melting tape . . .

Is this what you mean?

That looks like ordinary mounting tape. Wouldn't you need something more heat resistant?

Hi all,

Just thought I'd let you know that I used three very small cable ties to fix the insulator card on.

It seems to me that this is a perfect solution: they're plastic, so they're not going to cause a short; they're not going to melt; I can take them off again if I need to, and they fit inside the case.
