Mac IIfx Internal SCSI Termination

My IIfx came with a 3rd part SCSI HDD that no longer works. I am going to be using a BlueSCSI externally once it comes in. Doing some research though I have found that an internal filter and SCSI terminator should be installed into the internal SCSI port when no HDD is used. Is this essential? I do not have these parts if so. Will this cause my external BlueSCSI to not work?
