M0110 keyboard question

Aloha,

I have a M0110 keyboard that came with a recent 512Ke Facebook Marketplace pickup. At first it was not working at all; no keys functioned when pressed. I opened it up and noticed that only one side has circuitry; the right side (see pictures) is completely empty of any electronics. Not knowing these machines very well (I am a PPC guy), I wondered if this was the problem. Anyway, I cleaned it all up and even managed to get the keyboard to finally work with a new cable and some WD-40 in the key stems.

So, the "empty" IC/component spot obviously has nothing to do with the functionality of the keyboard. I'm just curious because I have yet to see anything about a one-sided M0110, nor have I seen a single image of an opened keyboard case or board similar to mine. Is this a standard version of the M0110 or something unique?

Regardless, the keyboard works fine now (except for the 'V' key; I might have to pull it someday and resolder. Even the missing 'BACKSPACE' stem works; looking for a replacement keycap that isn't ridiculously priced at the moment), so no biggie. I'm just curious about what I have.

Any thoughts?View attachment DSC_0571.JPGView attachment DSC_0602.JPGView attachment DSC_0604.JPGView attachment DSC_0605.JPG

That looks normal. Sounds like the contacts in the Alps keyswitches have gone bad... they are a real bear to clean. You have to desolder the switches, and take them apart. The housings are made of super brittle plastic and very easy to damage.

Major issue is the cable, you can have a new one done with a phone one and some mods.
Yes, contacts are not easy to solve, a swap is what i have done so far.
