Hi,
Recently I needed to re-install the OS on an LC475 I had just purchased. Seeing as I had no other modern(ish) Mac to work with (being a PC guy these days), I had to do a bit of thinking as the the best way to go about it. The result is the Linintosh server. I have put together a VMware "appliance" that provides preconfigured Samba (windows file sharing) and Netatalk (Appletalk file sharing) instances on top of an open source linux. If you have an ethernet equipped Mac and a Windows XP workstation, you can install your MacOS from the Linintosh server and transfer files between the two platforms.
I posted this in a thread about getting an LCIII onto the net over in the LC forum, but thought I'd post it here in case theres people that might find this useful that havent read that thread. Currently I'm seeding the linintosh server via bit torrent, which I'll probably do for the next week or so, unless there is a bit of interest in keeping it around longer.
I've documented the process somewhat at http://www.nzstory.com/mac/default.htm and the torrent can be downloaded from http://www.mininova.org/tor/1280998
If this looks useful, and someones got somewhere a bit more permanent to host it, let me know.
Cheers,
