So I go to a goodwill in aloha or all the time and they never seem to have any mac stuff, just pc towers usually. Well I look through a glass door in rcieving and see a whole table of imacs from G4 to intel. About 10 in all. No testing can be done there as it is a last stop kinda deal. They haveto remove hard drives of course and are pretty good about not wreckingthe machines when they do it. SinceI have a G4 and a G5 imac I was like oh well, but that 20 inch intel I am thinking what the heck its 20 bucks. It has 2 gigs of ram and I have a hard drive for it. So I get it bring it home. Slap a hard drive in it and plug it in thinking I will here a chime and have no screen or lines. To my disbelief I get nada. No nothing. So I pull it all apart, remove the screen again and look at the power supply thinking blown fuse, no such luck the power supply under a little copper looking heat shield is cooked, black, charred. Well last year I had a 17 inch G5 that the motherboard and screen went belly up and I got it for parts (which gave my Cube a new DVD drive) and low and behold the rating and connections for the supply matched the intel. Built completely different I put it in and "BOOM" chime and boot. Have to download update 10.6.8 combo but after 12 hours of being off on and asleep its working like a charm. Ill put 10.7 on it since it cant take 8. The funniest thing was I had windows XP loaded on the Hard drive and forgot, and seeing the imac booted into windows made me laugh.-
