iLamp™ (literally) Hack Project . . .

Trash80toHP_Mini

NIGHT STALKER

. . . iKnow, iKnow, it's very likely bordering on iBlasphemy, but when a friggin' pair of these silly lil' white, and now that they've come of age, cuties showed up available for trade goods here recently, I just COULD NOT RESIST assimilation into the iMac ownership club.

This is something of an humiliation for me, as I'd sworn never to own an iAIO Mac of ANY kind! :I

Be that as it may . . . ::) . . . they've each found a home on the modular bedside tables of my expansive Teak Headboard/Chest of Drawers Combo. There's no rush about this hack, there is still LOTS of room for the original halogens. As a matter of fact, I was amazed to find that these Hemispherical HumpMacs contain their own PSU! This Hack'll be a piece of cake! [:D] ]'> I would have sworn they'd followed in the Jobsian Cubist Tradition of putting a monster of a lump-on-a-rope on the floor to keep the desktop looking minimalist and as [8D] as possible.

Be that as it may, the notion is to have my iLamps act as digital picture frames and remote controlled, stealth, bedside LED indirect lighting and adjustable reading lamps all at the same time. I'm sure I'll find other uses for them after I tether them together over EtherNet and a wireless USB K-V-M setup, but for now . . .

. . . indirect & reading light along with picture framing is enough. }:)

p.s. I'm a bit busy to do research ATM, as I'm building a TrackBall Upgraded Duo 2300c to send off, so what do three beeps and no video signify at startup? :?:

p.p.s. will these cute lil' puppies boot into OS9 :?:

Never mind! The info was in the post: 2x iMac G4 Flat Panels

As promised the 800 boots just fine to a :?: and I've got a portable DVD to load an OS 9.2.2 0r 9.0 or 9.1 or . . . drat! It just booted into 10.2.8 . . .

I guess I can live with that for the nonce. What kind of CatPoo is 10.2.8? Cool beans! I just shut the mutha down with the wireless Mouse from across the room! I've gotta find the friggin' KBD! I've got two identical sets, one is missing the micro-dongle and this set is missing the KBD . . .

. . . Murph's been movin' me Mac Crap around again! ::)

I'd still like to know whaT 3 BONGS AND NO VIDEO MEANS AT STARTUP THOUGH . . . BAH cAPSLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reckon FedEx might have jangled something loose inside, so I'll play with the 800 when I get a chance.

Three beeps is usually bad or incompatible RAM. Those iMacs (700MHz, 800MHz) have one piece of PC133 desktop RAM internally and one PC133 SODIMM under the bottom access plate. 1GHz and above have PC2100 RAM in the same desktop/laptop config.

Thanks for the input, it had the ring of your usual RAM barf on boot & DIE sequence.

I found my KBD, so I can play with one of the new toys, I'm using it as a third backup repository for all the crud I've accumulated on my HP/Verizon 3g Pavilion dm1 since I semi-retired HP_Mini in June. The FedEx box awaits the final swipe of my data and off the 11.6" NetBook+ before it goes to HP for a rebuild.

It'll be HP_Mini tethered to my 'Droid Global for the next few days or so. The Pavilion was an out of box failure, but the fan started working so I never got around to picking up the replacement before Verizon sent it back. The problem cropped up again, so I called them again and found out that they can only fix this one . . .

. . . whatever! The headboard iLamp800 is already earning its keep! :approve:

These are really kinda cute lil' buggers once you can get past the FuglyDesignMotif. }:)

Frog Design's "Snow White" design language handily beats this inverted white colander with a baking sheet on a stick metaphor! :o)

LOL...I actually like the design! It's handy being able to adjust the height of the monitor. For different users who prefer different eye levels it's very handy. I prefer it over the current iMacs :D

Plus, you can get it to stick its tongue out at you!
