Maybe it’s a stupid question (because the card says ‚only for use with IIci‘) - but: Can I plug an IIci cache card into my Quadra 700? And if: would it be useful?
The IIci cache card uses a 96-pins DIN 41612 physically identical to NuBus and some PDS slots, but is completely incompatible electrically. The only similar physical connector in a Q700 are the NuBus slots, and you _really_ don't want to connect a cache card in those.
Quadras use a completely different connector for their PDS slot, the black one with 140 pins in line with one of the NuBus slot.
Also the IIci cache card is designed to talk to the 68030, not the 68040.
One could probably design a cache card for the PDS slot in Quadras, but they would be completely different from the one for the IIci.
Those cache cards are only useful in the IIci and maybe the IIvi as well (I think the IIvx uses the same slot but already has cache on-board?).
Just because it looks the same doesnt mean its the same connector. Cache cards for 040s (that ive seen) were always plugged into the actual processor slot, then you plugged the 040 into it. I think Micromac made one.
