HD20 PSU Question

Hi,

Does anyone know if the PSU in the HD20 is international? i.e. is it user (or automatically) switchable between 120/240V?

Just wondering as its likely that if I want one, I'll have to get it from a 120V environment and I'm in a 240V one.

Hi,

Sorry, I'll not answer exactly your question, but I can tell that SC20 hard drive do have a (Sony) PSu that automatically switches between 110 and 240V.

I guess it's the same with HD20, but wait till someone confirms it before pluging it ;-)

Macs of that era were not auto-switching so it is my assumption that Apple peripherals will be the same. However it is best for someone with experience of these to confirm this. As far as I'm aware the first Macs to have auto-switching power supplies were the Mac SE and II.

If it is not auto-switching then you could always run it with a basic household 240V-120V transformer.

Unless someone knows for sure, I'd like to open up my PSU and verify what's actually inside the enclosure, one of the only pics JDW didn't post!

Either way I doubt it'll be a major hindrance for you.

There are no external switches to easily change to 220. And even when you open the HD20 enclosure, there are no external switches you can immediately see, nor are there any stickers in view that talk about 220. I therefore will have to unmount my power supply and then disassemble it to determine if there is a switch inside. Even so, you would have to be willing to do that work yourself, even if there is a switch inside. I myself wouldn't consider that hard, but everyone is different.
