Has anybody gotten a SCSI2SD v5.5 yet?

I'm not sure if it has been brought up on the forum yet, but has anyone gotten a SCSI2SD v5.5 yet?  I just did last week, and it's a fantastic little device.



I was using a v5 inside a 3D-printed external box with the DB25 adapter, and it worked well but was very clunky and kind of a pain to use (I like to rotate my old Macs often).  Then a few weeks ago I went to buy a SCSI2SD for a Mac Classic II, and saw that the 5.5 had been released.  So I put my existing v5 into the Classic and started using the new v5.5 as my external drive.

This thing is fantastic!  It works seamlessly just like my v5 units, but it's tiny and plugs into any Mac very quickly.  As an external device, it is SO much better than the v5 in a tacky box!  It takes just a few seconds to plug it into the back of any Mac I want to use or work on.

Anyone else have any experience with these?  I didn't even know they had been released and am very pleasantly surprised by them.

Yes!  I grabbed one a few months ago.  Use it with a right-angle adapter to plug seamlessly into an upgraded 128k with a Total Systems Gemini accelerator with SCSI add-on.  It’s awesome.  I wrote somewhere else recently I feel like I’m using the world’s tiniest Jasmine BacPack.  Mine is gray, though ... the website now pictures them looking transparent like yours.  I wonder if they changed the choice of plastic?

Me too, I use it all the time with both desktops and laptops. Love it.

Got one here too, with a 128GB MicroSD card in it. The early black case is pretty average so good so see a higher quality case is being made. It’s the closest we can get to a “thumb stick” device for SCSI equipped Macs.

What a great idea!  I just found some of these on l-com.com.  But there are three versions and the difference is the "cable exit":

A little hard to see but they allow for different orientations of the connector.  I'm not sure which one would be the right one for the back of a compact (or any) Mac but I'm guessing 1 or 3.

FWIW here’s the one I have. It works great for a pre-Plus battery-port SCSI add-on. It goes the wrong way for a stock Plus, however. (It was also cheaper when I got it, I think this is a 2-pack.)

Love my "SCSCI thumb drive"!  Plug it into any SCSI port, even my Asante SCSI to Ethernet adapter, and it just works...

That's a beautiful case. How close is the color to 100 series a/o Duo Charcoal gray? If printed, what's the spec on the filament used?

@Trash80toHP_Mini It's lighter shade of gray. It is printed, but not by me. Inertial Computing actually sold this case with the 5.5s for a while last year. I picked it up then, but they’ve since moved to a molded case for cost reasons. I’ve sent them an email and asked about the filament and if they are willing to share the model.

I ordered one a few weeks ago and started using it when I picked up a 2400c a couple of weeks ago. Moved and didn't bring any vintage stuff with me so it was just my 2400c and the SCSI2SD.

I found it to be very flakey, but no different from what I've heard about other models. When it works, it's utterly spectacular. But it just seems to work at random about 40-50% of the time. I'll save final judgment for when I test it out back in Toronto with my 9500 and PowerTower and other known-perfectly-working machines (though the 2400c has been flawless booting off the SD to IDE adaptor/card.

I bought a v5.5 a month ago, and I really like it! It's super convenient to use between multiple Macs.
