Getting GATO and Ray's Maze 1.0 Working On System 7

Hi all, as noted in topic, I'm interested in whether it's possible to get the early Mac games GATO and RM 1.0 working on hardware running System 7.5 (this hardware cannot boot System 6 or earlier). Currently GATO boots but quits after some fairly spectacular video glitches, while RM quits with "Error 1" shortly after loading the menus.

Has anyone got these two games working in >= System 7.0? I'm well aware of the existence of emulators, but would rather run off OG hardware, and am wondering whether there are any patches to the software and/or system adjustments (turning off 32 bit addressing) that folks have done to get these two classics working.

I've had good luck getting older games to run on System 7.1 Pro by turning off 32-bit memory addressing and setting the color mode to what is expected of the game (usually B&W.)

Sadly I'm on a machine (Powerbook 520c) where it isn't possible to turn off 32-bit addressing. However, I poked into RM using ResEdit just now, and noticed some SIZE resources that included switches for whether the app was 32-bit compatible or not. Turns out all I had to do for RM was mark them "compatible" and the game booted right up!

GATO I suspect won't be so easy to get running, I'll investigate in the coming days.

That's a handy trick. Sounds like it'd make for a very useful drag & drop utility where you can drop older games on it and switch the flag. May or may not work, but it's worth a try.
