G5 tower - how to remove top plate?

Two years ago I got screwed buying a "cheap" G5 project. Firstly, I didn't know how flaky G5s can be - up until that time I was cocky, thinking: "I have never seen a Mac I couldn't fix!" Fix meaning something short of replacing the PSU, logic board, and processors! Screwed also not because it was broken, but because these guys said they didn't know what was wrong with it, when it was apparent upon closer inspection that they had very clumsily tried to fix it themselves already, making it worse - and leaving out some of the hardware. Whatever... It was not a total loss, I got some decent parts out of it.

But now I am cleaning up the case, since I need some cases, and pondering what to do with it. With some effort I removed the logic board and power supply. But what I cannot figure is how to remove that pesky top plate. The one that the optical and hard drives are meant to mount above. I unscrewed the torx screws I could see on the case. I cannot see anything holding it in there, but it barely moves. With the torx removed I can slide it a few millimeters where the mounting holes are slotted. Are there hidden fixtures? Or do I need to move it some crazy way? Would somebody explain what the trick is with these?

First you need to remove the sliding arm that rear case button connects too; this involves removing circlips - tape them down, they are tiny once removed! Then, it's time to look inside the case and unscrew several torx screws on the underside of the tray and surrounds.

This is why I went with a G4 instead of a G5, the internal architecture of the G5 cases is so odd It just seems like one big hassle.

Circlips? I didn't see them. Which probably explains why I was't able to remove it. I will look for them.

IMO it is well designed, but it is my hassle now. It is a nice case so I should use it for something.

In the worst case scenario with a "project" G5 you can always sell a clean case for a decent sum to someone who wants to put a PC or Hackintosh inside one.
