G5 quad showing leaking caps

So, i found out my quad lcs was starting to leak. I didnt really want a g5 project right now, but my two 2.3 dual core psu died so I thought go 3 for 3? Anyways, lcs is pulled. I decided to re thermal paste logic board as well. I did notice some caps were leaky, Great!, more work. I dont want to see my quad die, the dual cores don’t care much. Just wanted to let people know the g5 tower logic boards have suspect caps too

heh, that's tough.

For note, all of my three single 1.8 died last year or a couple of years before and theses caps were dead as well.
They are from the Pentium 4 capacitor plague, so are likely to have more capacitor issues than earlier machines

Not looking forward to recapping my newer PPC machines, too much work. I had to redo a bunch of G5 iMacs years ago when my eyesight was better, and it was a pain (hate new solder).

Well, lcs taken apart and cleaned. So now the rebuild i guess. The orings leaked and this was a single pump version so no lcs was “safe” as far as i am concerned. Not sure if i want this route. Still tempted to air cool it.

I hope you are replacing the o-rings?

Let us know how refilling goes. I just did one of these about a month ago and (fingers crossed) it’s been working quite well so far. I’m still trying to scheme up a way to leave less air in while refilling.
