Flat cable for LCD screen Portable non backlight (M5120)

I was wondering if it is possible to find a replacement for a LCD flat cable for the Macintosh Portable. My spare one has some wires cut. Would be nice to sell it working. The rest works OK..

It is a flat cable with 26 wires and two different female connectors. Or is there a way of repairing it?

I'd say definitely repairable with a donor ribbon cable (40pin IDE or floppy would be a good choice)

you could fix that up easily with some soldering and shrink tube....    its the 5126 cables that are the fregin nightmare.

I rebuilt one of my cables using old Ultra-ATA ribbon stripped. I pulled apart and re-crimped the fittings, and all was well. I just redid it with an entire piece of new cable.

oh yeah that too... i forgot you did that... but i remember now... quite crafty my good fellow! :) considering its the same density cable.

I wish that could be done for the backlit cable.

I wonder, if one were to somehow figure out the pinout, if a replacement cable could be made with much better material?

I am waiting on aplmak to ship me a non backlit to backlit upgrade with cable.

Once I have that, I can unlock the ability to make new backlit cables. as well as reverse/forward cables, and replacement inverter drivers, etc...

Problem is, Getting him to do it. Without that missing piece, I cannot do anything.

Everything hinges on that one piece. I honestly think he doesnt want to let go of it, even though its a loaner.

and If I cant get one on loan, nothing can happen.

I know, I know.... I will do it right now techknight.... :) :) But PLEASE take care of it.... it's my only one.... :) :)

If there is anyone that should tinker with it, it should be techknight seeing how he is like the portable EXPERT in my opinion.... He could have been on the engineering team at this point!! LOL!

I'm working on getting a 5126 from Macdrone, and maybe I can figure out the pinout of the cable, if that helps?
