Dead LC

I just got a LC2 with System 7, and I tried to start it up, and I get a gray screen. No chime, no nothing. I restarted a few times and it occassionally chimes but then restarts suddenly. What could these be symptoms of?

First try toggling the power. Basically, turn the machine on, then off, and then on again fast.

Failing that, open the computer and try reseating the components.

Failing that, try starting it up in a barebones configuration, with just the mobo, power supply and VRAM chip, and monitor.

Failing that, get back to us.

Update:

I turned it on after a while of waiting and it booted into system 7. I fooled around a bit, looking through the hard drive, and after about 30 seconds it went into its continuous reboot thing.

Many, many things could cause that behavior.

First, carefully inspect the mobo for telltale signs of capacitor leakage or other crud.

Recheck the power supply connections to the mobo. Sometimes, simply unplugging and re-plugging the connector can clean off oxidation that was causing flaky behavior.

A weak PRAM battery can cause mischief in some models. Try simply removing it and see what happens.

Those will do for a start.

No cap leakage, the power supply unplug/replug didn't change anything, and I replaced the PRAM battery. Still nothing, I'm afraid.
