Conquest: Quadra 950! (Possibly others for YOU)

I just got back from San Francisco. An hour drive, but I picked up for free a Quadra 950! Not just any Quadra 950, but it's the "Publishing Configuration!" It has 128MBs of RAM on 8 16MB SIMMs, a MicroNet SCSI RAID built in (not sure how big the HDDs are), and a SuperMac DigitalFilm card. I believe it's a Thunder II GX with a video capture daughter card. Unfortunately no breakout cable, so I'll have to track one down.

I'm really excited, I've always wanted to play with a Quadra 950. Getting one for $20 in gas is pretty darn good.

I also got an old SCSI RAID tower with a few Micropolis drives in it. The power supply is rusted through, though. Not sure if it works. I hope to salvage the drives. Has a bunch of cool LEDs on it.

I had to get home in a hurry, but they also have a working Pismo in excellent condition that's also free. I looked it over and it seemed to be in pristine condition, even had the original power adapter (the one that catches fire. :p ) I didn't grab it because they still had to erase it and everything, and I was parked illegally. Didn't want a ticket. :/ PM me for their contact info and you can email them. I think the guy coordinating the machines will also ship if you pay for shipping.

Thunder II gx is just a video card (a very good one for Nubus actually) along with a DSP board. The Supermac Digital Film card should be a seperate card that needs a special cable that goes to a special breakout box (video in/out). Which Micronet card?

Any pics planned?

Aaah, handy dandy. Makes it a lot easier to set the SCSI IDs. I thought perhaps it was the fancy setup with the SuperMac video card and RAID card. I'll take it either way. I'm totally stoked. :D

I just realized I can finally test out my Radius Rocket card! I would imagine the Quadra 950 has a more robust power supply than my bitty IIci. :) To the Nerd Cave!

It's a pretty stock Quadra 950 except for the Video Capture Card and the awesome amount of RAM. I was wondering why it was so darn heavy, and I realized that inside the MicroNet HDD sled is a full height 2GB SCSI drive. Damn HDD weighs 50 pounds. :p

Booted up just fine. Hafta do a clean install of System 7 so I can try out the Radius Rocket.

I would backup the main drive to preserve any drivers that might be on it.

Rockets like OS 7.01 or 7.1 forget which (and they don't like OT installed).

7.1 is perfect for Radius Rocket. Do not install OT. RocketShare vs RocketWare: RocketShare=Hardware "Virtual Machine" but better, RocketWare= CPU Accelerator

I would use RocketShare on this machine, no point to an 040 accelerator in a 950.
