Color Classic - Not Booting

Yes, I know a similar topic has been discussed before. But most of these included macs that atleast started up, or had hard disk problems.

My Macintosh Color Classic has been sitting around untouched for close to 6 months (I think?) I decided one day to turn back up again when I was bored. I was astonished that it did not turn on at all. Before, it booted up fine, all it needed was an OS. It also had no RAM cards (it had built-in RAM)

I have researched my problem for many weeks now, none finding any joy to my mac. I even bought a new PRAM battery, no magic. I couldn't find a CUDA switch either. There is also no bong or startup sound. And yes, I am starting it from the keyboard. It turns on without the motherboard, though.

If requested, I can post a picture of the motherboard.

Thanks,

Dotux

these things are notorious for being "dead"

Recapping only works 50% of the time. but the other 50% after a recap, its still dead. Removing the circuit board and sliding it back in real quickly while power switch is on can jumpstart it.

I hear this a lot around here.. is the cause unknown?

That is why its good to get on your CC / 840av / SE/30 / Portable  RE-caps now, while they still work.

if you wait for the goo to dribble all over the place, bad things will start to happen.

Thank you all for replying.

According the majority's opinon, the capicitors are the cause of the problem.

How can I be sure that they are the problem?

On any machine with electrolytic capacitors (the tin can looking things) you will want to replace them regardless of functionality. While they may still work, they *will* still be leaking on the board, which will actually eat through it over time.

As for doing the actual recap: if you are good with a soldering iron, you can solder on new caps. https://wiki.68kmla.org/Capacitor_Replacement

You can get the capacitors from trag, a member here, for ~$10 shipped to you.

*THIS IS IMPORTANT* if you are only doing a single recap, you can *probably* get by with a Radio Shack soldering iron. I really recommend getting a decent Weller or Hakko soldering iron instead.

If you don't want to bother with it, you can contact uniserver.
