I'd been watching a post on Kijiji (sort of like Craigslist, but more polite since it's in Canada
) for a couple old Macs. The listing offered a Mac 'Classic', a IIci and some peripherals. No asking price, which I always find annoying.
Checked again the next day. A PowerPC of unknown type was added to the listing, and it's now priced as a lot for $60. I look at the photo and notice the 'Classic' is in fact a Color Classic.
So I buy the lot. I figure it's worth it for the Color Classic alone.
What I got:
Color Classic: Wouldn't start until I washed the logic board. Needs re-capping, but I'm reluctant since it's now working fine.
IIci: with cache card and add-on video card. Starts, but no 'bong' and no video. Haven't given it much of a look yet.
PowerMac 7100/66: With HPV card, but fortunately I had an AV card sitting in the spare parts pile. Runs perfectly.
Syquest 44 external and Toshiba external CD with removable caddy: untested, and with the worst yellowing I've personally encountered. They've passed yellow and have reached a Commodore 64 shade of brown with a touch of nicotine stain thrown in. Time for some Retr0bright!
Plus a bunch of Syquest carts, all relevant cables, a few keyboards (compact, Extended II, and whatever that horrible one that shipped with the PCI Macs was called). Also, one PCI scsi-wide card for some reason, and a forgotten Warcraft CD inside the 7100.
A nice thing about the computers is the seller has owned them from new, keeping the old systems as he upgraded. The IIci still has the screw holding down the drive assembly. It wouldn't surprise me if this was the first time the cases had been cracked open since their original purchase. There's a bit of rust on a couple port connectors and inside the 7100, but I'm pretty happy with the haul. I really didn't expect to come across any reasonably priced 68K machines ever again, since they're such a rarity in my neck of the woods.
