Centris 650: $5.50!

Hi,

I've not had any cheap luck on eBay for months, Friday the 13th came through though! :)

Centris 650:

Will pick it up next week. I'm not sure why the CD-ROM bezel is missing. The Centris 650 has nostalgic value for me as my best friend had the same machine with PPC upgrade; his family spent thousands on this Mac and their Quadra 700 (which cost them $10K+ to purchase for home use!!!). I know the case is pretty lousy but at least it's strong.

As always it'll be maxed out with as much RAM and HD as I can scrounge around for :)

Well they "run" it, but..well...yeah. :p Speaking of which, Dana, did yours ever actually boot to the desktop? Would be too cool if it did! :O

Either way Byrd, $5.50 is always a good price for a Mac, especially a C650! :) And especially with a 1710 (sweet monitors, when they work :)) and maxed out with 3 NuBus cards of any sort, even if they all work out to be Tobys. ;)

Gday,

So I picked up the Centris 650 today, and it's in great condition. The AppleVision 1710 is working although the front buttons are pretty dodgy and I might chuck this.

Specs of machine:

- 24MB/500MB HD

- Sony 8x4x32 SCSI CD burner, hidden behind front bezel (which you have to pop off to get to the CD) ... anyone have a tray-loading CD bezel they could throw my way?

- Three nubus video cards: SuperMac PDQ x 2 full length, Rasterops half-length. Cool and funky splash screens come up when you plug a monitor into any port at startup. The SuperMac has this unusual "press space bar" option to enable some sort of spanned display support, or something along the lines

So, I'll blast it with compressed air, try to max out the RAM, and get a bezel.

Very nice. Those SuperMac cards sound very interesting...would be good to play with I imagine. Hope that Mac has the drivers for 'em! And a SCSI CD-RW? Very nice, very nice indeedy. :)

That's great bYrd. I eyed that one off and then decided I have enough Macs for the moment.

My handy $110 40L air compressor cleaned it all up (what I did before having one of these I don't know), it's come up a treat. The outer shell was in top condition but the innards thick with that terribly evil dust.

So far I've made the following upgrades:

- Upgrade to 96MB RAM

- 2GB SCSI HD

- The monitor connector screws were missing, all fixed now

- Install of OS 8.1 and my favourite apps

I'm tempted to overclock this and my Q700 one day.

Also posted a WTB on here regarding a tray-load plastic bezel + metal tray, don't have this at the moment.
