Can I install a classic OS under 10.4.11 (Powerbook G4)

Hi...

I just got my powerbook G4 1095 up and running with a solid state drive.  I am currently running 10.4.11 (Tiger), but I have a DVD that will let me install 10.5.1 (Leopard).

Mostly I will use this laptop to support my Mac Color Classic.  I am running 7.6.1 on my Color Classic.

Can I install 7.6.1 under Tiger in my Powerbook?  How about 8.1?  I have the original apple CDs... Can I boot to this classic OS?

Thanks

OK, I *think* understand you Themk.  I do have a apple branded OS 9. something CD.  Can I install that?

I want to use my laptop to support my Color Classic.  If I understand it correctly, 7.6.1 uses a file system called HFS and this version of OSX I have installed uses HFS+.

I want to use my powerbook to down load files that I can then burn to a CD and then move to my Color Classic.  Many years ago when I tried to do this, I received many strange error messages on my Color Classic.  I think it was because I did not know about the different file systems.

I also received many error messages that said I could not un compress the file I had down loaded because the software used to compress it was not available (or words to that effect).

I am starting over again.

Would I have less compatibility issues if I booted my laptop to OS 9 something?

Thanks for your help.

Don't feel bad you had a hard time deciphering what I said. It was the usual morning incoherency.

To boot from 9 on the machine I think you have to have a 9.2.2 specific installer for the machine.  This is the same kind of issue for MDD towers and such.  I have put OS 9.2.2 on an MDD and powerbook using the emac OS9 hidden folder drug onto the hard drive of those machines and it works if OS9 drivers are installed on the hard disk and the machine supports booting OS9.

Thanks everyone..  I tried to boot to my apple branded 9.2 CD.  It would not boot to it. When I boot to my tiger desktop I can see the CD, but when i try to run the installer it fails.  I am updating Quicktime ( to 7.6.4) because the OS 9 CD had problems with my installed version of Quicktime.  But I think I have other issues.

BadGold - thanks for the clarification - I was going to upgrade to Leopard, but if tiger will support HFS, I will stay where I am.

As an aside, I have been unable to get into macintoshgarden using any browser or OS.  Windows 10 and Firefox also fails.  Is it just me?

9.2 wont boot later systems, must be 9.2.2,  you have to have the installer cd and/or the folder trick i mentioned.
