Apple PlainTalk Mic

I was hoping I could get some help with an old mic made by Apple. It is the PlainTalk mic that was made for the first iMac and the MacG3 (I believe). I'd like to try to use it for fun, but it has an extended 3.5mm jack due to it having built in pre-amp. The only advice I could find was to use scissors to cut the pre-amp part off and solder my own adapter on to it. I do not like permanently damaging retro items so I was hoping if anyone knows of a way to make an adapter to use it on modern devices.
