An MDD of my very own!

I finally found one looking around the detritus of my office's storage space.

Turns out it was the server of office downstairs until they upgraded earlier this decade. Best part is it's free if I can get the backed up data off it! Should be a piece of cake as it boots into 10.3 no problem.

Gonna turn it into my 68k/ppc server and might use it for the marathon game if we get that working.

Wow congrats. I have one, power supply went and took either the processor or the MB with it. Tried with known working power supply no boot. Didn't want to mess with my friends MDD to check parts individually other than that.

that's frightening.

Any advice on how to avoid that? What sort of failures, are we talking components? Something maybe a capacitor replacement may prevent??

Most what I have seen is ATX power supply replacement/rewiring asthe power supply in the MDD go bad. My issue was former owner doing this and popping the motherboard. It's a beautiful case tho.

that's frightening.
Admittedly, being the Classilla development machine, it works rather hard for an MDD. It also has an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro, two hard disks, two optical drives, 2GB of memory and a 1.8GHz 7447A upgrade. That's within 360W, but it's still quite a draw when chugging away. Nevertheless, I haven't had that issue with any of my other machines other than a IIci with an iffy ASTEC PS (replaced with the much more reliable General Electric one).

My MDD still runs great to this day. It has the 400w ACBel power supply, along with 2 80GB HDs, an nVidia FX5200 video card, Adaptec SCSI card, upgraded fan and a USB 2.0 card. No hiccups whatsoever. I love it!

Ya ill stick with my free G5 dual 2.0 and my free MacBook 2.4 ghz. I still look in awe at how that guy massacred that MDD. I have the pieces, but the case looks sweet.....but empty. Maybe I'll put another motherboard in there or something.
