I am trying to change the hard drive icon in OS X, but when I change it, it has a black background on it when in Preview and other applications, the background is transparent. It seems to happen with every picture that has any transparency in them. Though it's not really a big issue, I want to know why it might be happening.

Alpha transparency doesn't show on hard drive icon

It's sometimes weird to copy/paste things with alpha transparency. I recommend using a program called Iconographer. You should be able to directly edit the icon of the hard drive with that program.
