Almost vintage

Did some upgrading at Christmas. My mother has been using a 2006 Mac Mini since 2006. I bought it new , used it for 2 moths then upgraded her to this old computer I wasn’t using anymore. Last Christmas I tried to do the Same with a Mini I bought in October. Unfortunately she didn’t like 10.8 so I brought the new Mini home with me. This I brought out a Macbook and a newer Mini that would still run 10.6.8. She’s 85 so hopefully 10.6.8 will still be usable enough long enough.

So I now have her old Mini. She said it had started locking up 3 or 4 times a day and took 10 minutes to restart. Not sure if that was correct as she was having some problems with her monitor which I replaced. When I got it home I cleaned it out, maxed the RAM and installed a larger hard drive with a new operating system.

Not sure what to do with it but I wanted to make sure it’s reliable. For a simple test I’ve had it playing 1080p video in a loop all day. Maybe I’ll try it at rendering some video. Not sure what else to try for a test.

We had an '06 core 2 duo with the ram under the logic board. It seemed to get very hot. While under the warranty we had the same problems you are having and they replaced the logic board. SO we sold it before it burned out again. The G4 (PPC) version runs cooler and has never quit on us.
