A Mini and some surprise numbers on the end of my SE

The Craigslist ad had fuzzy pictures of the "Mac SE" the guy wanted to sell. Turned out to be an SE/30 with an Ethernet card in it! I felt much better about dropping $50 on a networked SE/30 than just another SE! I have my tools at work, so I'll see if there is any battery damage before I power it on. Outside is very nice. I'll post pics from work. I have a feeling that there might be a lot of memory in there too. It came with the intro to SE/30 disk, and his original Mac 128's (which he no longer has) MacWrite/MacDraw manual, which is cool as can be.

The Mini will be my kids' new Netflix machine, so I can have my iMac back! It's a 1st generation Intel Mac Mini maxed out with 2 GB of RAM, and an hot (temperature) 80G HDD :) Looks like I have to find my putty knives and put a cool little SSD in there. It'll only run 10.6.8, but that's plenty for the PBS Kids and Netflix load it'll be asked to carry.

Nice! I had a mini for quite a few years and loved it - they are perfect for little AV devices. The SE/30 is a great find at that price. I hope that you are right in your guess about the memory, I never found too much in the ones that I received or bought.

I won't post pics, as it isn't anything unusual. Just a nice working SE/30. As I suspected it has a big HDD (240MB) and more RAM (4 SIMMs of 4MB each + 4 SIMMs of 1MB each = 20MB) than stock.

The board looks great, no bulges or obvious cap-goo. The original 1989 Tadiran purple battery was still in there 8-o . Luckily it was still in one piece. The sound is a little quiet, so it could need some attention in the near future, but overall I'm very pleased. Usually when someone says "I don't know if it works" they really mean "I tried it and it didn't work," but this time I guess he meant it.

The screen is dim, and badly burned in. He must've left it on for a server (from the software running) without turning down the brightness knob on the front. If I get a wild hare soon I'll try a nice bright SE monitor in there, but this one is low on the project list right now.

A nice (working) SCSI HD and extra 30-pin RAM is always a welcome addition to the collection!
