512k almost boots...

Okay, so years ago I had a 512 that I tried to bring back to life and during the process, I had someone make a boot floppy (and a backup disk) for it. I never did get it to work and I'm pretty sure that I sold it, but I always kept the floppies, just in case.

Fast-forward 20+ years and I now have a Mac 512k that boots to a flashing ? And when I put in the disk, it 0F00064's on me.

So two questions:

1) is there a way to tell if this was mfs formatted or not vs hfs formatted with the system on it.

2) I can't find a system image file (3.2 or 4.1) that I can trust to be good - I've found a few, but they are either corrupted, or there was something else wrong. I have an se with fetch, unstuffit, disk image 4.2 to make floppies on.

Any ideas?

I'd try 1.1... I think either Jagshouse or Gamba has it on their sites. Format the disk as single-sided, of course, then use DiskCopy to copy it over. Make sure that the SE can boot the disk before you try to boot the 512...

Thanks for the suggestions - I will take a look at that and see where it takes me. I didn't think to try booting off it on the SE.

Not a problem. Yeah, even though the minimum supported OS, according to Apple is 4.1, the SE can boot anything that a 128K can boot.
