450 MHz Power Mac G4 OS 8.6 Help

I suspect that falls into the category of "Machine who's minimal OS is "x" but can't boot from the retail install disks because it debuted after the OS "x"'es release". For a system like that you'll need the original restore disk that came with that machine. (Or, in some cases, that "category" of machine.)

Once upon a time I had an envelope of random Mac restore disks from that era and I think a G4's 8.6 disk might have been among them, but I honestly have no idea where it would be. (Not that it would really help.) Is there a reason you specifically want 8.6 instead of 9?

I'd like to mess around with the OS. I'd appreciate if anyone could help me find a disc if possible. Thanks!

Guys, I think I found it here. Should I just replace the ROM on the install disc?

EDIT: The link is broken there... any other ideas?

EDIT2: Further down on the thread is a link to the restore disc!
