3x500 series book

Time for me to get back to some 68k action again... it has been a while since I´ve touched a 68k Mac.

I just couldnt resist this set of three 500 series PowerBooks from eBay for 25 bucks. I know one is a working 540c. The other two are supposed to be dead and are sold as spare parts units to go along with the working one. Curious whats inside them. Last time I got a PowerBook set like this one there was a nice PCMCIA adapter in there

So lets wait for them to arrive here. Stay tuned for updates.

ok i picked up the pack yesterday.

included was:

-a working 540 with two batteries - one of them leaked all over the poor thing - 16MB RAM card, modem, 160MB HDD

-a 520c with broken display, one battery, 8MB RAM card, 500MB HDD

-broken 540 with 4MB RAM card, one battery and 260MB HDD

i took them all apart compeltely to put together at least two working machines mixing the best parts from all 3 of them.

i got rid of the bottom case of 540 (1) because it was full dried battery goo. the rest of its case was in quite good condition.

the display on the 520c seems to have been hit really hard with something as it got some red spots on it and a small board labeled DC/DC on the panel itself did break right in the middle. the plastics are ok tho so i wonder what did happen so that something like this could happen.

however the book powers on and backlight turns on but nothing on the screen. you can hear taht its booting and inverter and display board are ok - tested them with a spare B/W panel.

540 (2) did just do nothing when you try to turn it on. replaced the logicboard with the one from 540 (1) after washing off all the goo.

still got to test the batteries. i saw one is recognized by the PB at least which already is more than what happens when you put most old intelligent batteries into a PB.

also waiting for a PCMCIA - CF adapter to arrive to built up a flash based 500 - still have to see which one to use but i guess it will be my 540c as i use this one most.

got quite a lot of spare parts left over now that might go into one of my other 500 series and some will be spare parts for the future - backlights and inverters someone? }
