3dfx voodoo II - vram amount?

didn't know if this would be a hardware or software topic but...

did 8MB versus 12MB of memory make much difference to mac games or it basically wasn't noticeable?

I'm thinking among the line of descent II, quake, and perhaps a few more other classics
