20SC

There's *tons* of information on this device on the web. Do a search for HD 20SC, or "hard disk 20sc" and you'll see what I mean.

That said, it was a 20MB scsi hard drive in an external enclosure with power supply. Nothing really special, other than its cosmetic match with the AIO compacts of the day.

Also using Tom Lee's search phrases, try the Apple Support website and click the "Include archive" option after you perform the search. You have to keep doing it for every new search.

Also Search for "hd-20SC" and "HD SC".

Apple did not make the drive mechanism, but they did manufacture the assembled unit. The internal drives in the SC series were supplied by a variety of drive manufacturers. Introduced in September 1986 along with the Apple IIGS.

Apple only built one hard drive, the Widget used only in the Lisa 2/Mac XL. AFAIK the only other drive Apple built was the Twiggy used only in the Lisa 1.

A lot of the info i find is about hd20 which looks a bit different.

I might take this one apart tonight, wants some pics?

the hd 20 is a slightly different beast it has a 20 mb rodime hd and conencts to the floppy port of the 128k\512 e

it was made redundant when the plus was released with scsi

The hard drive in my 20sc is 40mb I think, so im not shure why its called 20sc.

EDIT, got it. Someones cracked it open before and put an 40sc drive inside but taken the led away :( (thats why it never lit up), anyone know how the led fits on. Looking at the service manual it plugs into the drive.

The "HD 20" & "HD-20SC" are often confused due to the similar labeling. The SC refers to SCSI, while the earlier HD 20 was floppy-based. The HD-20SC was one of 4 original HD-SC drives offered by Apple. They came in 20MB, 40MB, 80MB & 160MB models. All of the cases were identical except for front labeling, they could contain 3.5" or 5.25" drives and all could be upgraded at anytime, with smaller, cooler and larger capacity drives. I'm not surprised yours has been altered. Only the 20SC seems to have come in both beige and Platinum, presumably to match the earlier Mac Plus which was beige for several more months following the HD-20SC release.
