2007 in Review

Well, it's that time of year where one reflects on their collections. The one that got away, the great find, the justifications made for more stuff.

So let's see what everyone did this year, including your favorite conquest for 2007.

... me first of course.

Hardware Conquests:

For conquests, I started the year with an SE for $10. The Belgian Powerbook 540 for $10 is my most recent conquest, and I have a power adapter on the way (more than $10 :p ). I went on an ethernet adapter (SCSI, serial) binge as well. Farallon, Asante, Adaptec. Alps gluidepoint keypad. Beige G3. Performa 6118CD. Zip disks. Think C.

Still no LC475 or trackball powerbook. Next year!

Project Conquests:

I put an ethernet card in the SE, and upgraded the memory.

I upgraded my eMate, and setup wireless on it.

Wrote m68kmpc, even if it is unfinished and buggy.

I've been working on getting my plus booting off a zip, and also on the internet. Sort of off and on with bits of success here and there.

Appletalk network setup between Plus, SE, iMac, and Thinkpad running linux.

That's it for 68kmla relevant stuff.

PowerMac G4/400

Powerbook Lombard G3/400

Dell Precision 360 desktop

HP Pavilion Celeron 500 laptop

Dell PowerEdge 1300 P3-500 server

Generic Celeron 433mhz Micro ATX PC

3x36GB 10k RPM Ultra3 SCSI drives

1x18GB 10k RPM Ultra3 SCSI drive

Socket A motherboard with Duron 1600mhz processor and 512MB RAM

I have an 18 and 36GB SCSI drive in the PowerEdge with Ultra2 SCSI onboard, and two 36GB drives in a case with the Socket A motherboard and an Ultra2 SCSI card. They fly. [:D] ]'>

I've been trying for some time to learn PHP/MySQL but never seem to have enough time to do so. The Lombard was set to do that before I started to have issues with it. argh.....

let's see... I have a New MacBook 2.16Ghz

An (Now dead) eMac 700

An Athlon-x2 64 w/ Dual 1TB Drives,

Compaq Armada m300 P3 600Mhz /192MB RAM

200GB HDD, A couple of Harddrive cases

Denon Turntable (High-end Record player. Cost around $400)

iMac Core2Duo 2.0Ghz w/ 128MB Radeon :D

PowerMac G3 Beige

PowerMac G3 Blue and White

I think that's it. Some electronics, some really cool computers :)

EDIT: I also got dual 80GB SATA-300Mbps Harddrives, but they were switched out for the 1 Terabyte.

On another note, i Just bought 2x Gigabit PCI Ethernet cards, and one Ethernet Switch.

I will also be acquiring a lot of Anime, even though it's not Electronics related, but my friend decided to give away a lot of stuff, and I got the Anime ^_^ [:D] ]'>

Ooh, it was a good year for me Mac-wise! :D Seems like ages ago, I can hardly believe I've had it for such a short time, but I was given my G3 and the two screens for it earlier this year, and I love them, it is such an awesome computer, and then £3.20 well spent a few weeks ago got me the Sonnet G4 processor for it! :D Shame that Apple decided that this was the year that my new Mac's time was up though... :'(

Hmm, what else...ooh, my Duos arrived this year too I seem to recall! :) Think that's about it for computers - picked up a few other bits of software and the like, but nothing else major.

LCII

PowerBook Duo 270c (Powers on 50% of the time)

Of course, some keyboards and mice.

Many parts. A Duo Dock, a duo charger, and external floppy drive.

and I hope to have an iMac G3 before the year is out!

I had a good year. The top conquest was a Freecycle G4 Dual 450. Followed by a BW G3 450 which was also a Freecycle find. Third would be a $11 ebay iMac DV 400 with a local pickup. I also had a number of odds and ends from Freecycle including an external USB powered zip 250, an Epson 1660 usb scanner, and a 21 inch Microtek LCD monitor. On the 68k side I picked up a Quadra 610 at a yard sale for $5 as well as two LC 475s and two Quadra 660avs for $20 from an ebay local pickup.

January:

2 Lime iMac G3 DV 400

Power Mac 6100

eMachines T2914

September:

iPhone

October:

Power Mac 7300/200

HP Slimline s7320n

I *know* I'm forgetting stuff. I'll edit this post if/when I remember it.

:)

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet

PowerBook 520c

Apple ][+

APCOM Apple II Clone

QuickTake 150

Power Mac 6100 Motherboard

Apple PDS 486 Card

iPod Nano (2G, Best Gen IMO)

Overall not a big year for liberations, and most of them came earlier in the year rather than later. Probably a good thing as I intended to cut down at the start of the year, announcing my official 68kMLA collectors retirement, and it seems i've achieved that goal. Partially attributed to a change of interest into the automotive sector, along with other things...

That said, no Mac has gone without a home. While the Mac trade around here has seemingly dried up, the few I didn't collect ended up in good hands. They always come back to me though so i'm expecting a surge of Macs early next year. :p

It was a good year for me too! Not as many as some of you, but my collection nearly doubled.

Craigslist:

PM G3 266 (free)

7600/132 (free)

25 sticks of PC100-133 ($27)

Freecycle:

Performa 6116cd (free)

Performa 6400 ($25)

various monitors and printers (bleh)

Roadside:

iMac G3/500 indigo (free!)

...I'm jealous of the guy who got the 2 lime iMacs...

I just remembered my two broken 20MB ipods which became one. It's nice once you have your friends trained to always ask you if you want stuff before they throw it away.

Nathan

hmmm...

so far I got this year:

SE - original with mobo dated 1986

SE 1/20 - with dead :( miniscribe drive :D

LC III - dont have it anymore

PM 4400

PM 9500

PM 8500 - this one has been modded :D

Beige G3 - this one will go away the next time...

B/W G3

another Q650

Color Classic

Q630 - cannibalized and trashed :/

and loads of stuff for the old macs

i think thats it...

but the year isnt over yet... :D

still to come this year:

2x PB520c - both maybe bad inverter boards... but may be also only a bad PRAM batt. - they should arrive the next days

Quadra 950 + extra 9150 mobo - trading this for my 7100...

looking forward to the last weeks of this year and to next year...

In the last year? I can't remember the last year?

Highlights I suppose were:

G4 Cube

Purple iMac DV

Beige G3 Tower (for free)

New 2.8Ghz dual core PC

There were also a few beige PowerMacs but nothing really outstanding. Like Bolle says though, still a couple of weeks left and I do have a few 'maybes' still in the pipeline.

As to regrets...

Still haven't got a Colour Classic 2 (ha, as if), a TAM, an eMate or an Intel Mac :(

This was a really nifty-tastic year here!

I liberated a Classic that has been sitting on a shelf in a cupboard at my old high school for years!

I got my complete-and-near-mint Apple IIc+ from the local computer store for $10!

I saved my PowerBook 540c (my first PowerBook, and my most powerful 68k Mac!) from the trash pile of a fellow MLAer!

So yeah, good year.

Not to mention treating myself to an iPod touch :D

I had the urge to free up some space, and so far, I've had more stuff go out than come in.

Out:

Sony Playstation 2 and a bunch of games

Nintendo Gamecube

S-VHS tape deck

27" CRT TV set

TAM (liked it but man it needs desk space)

Dell Inspiron P4 laptop (hated it)

Sony Vaio P3 laptop (not bad)

Mac SE/30

Mac Classic II (maybe I should have kept it)

All but 2 of my film cameras

Olympus Evolt E500 DSLR (nice but)

Fuji p&s camera (whoops, should have kept)

Radio controlled airplane that I never flew

Saturn V model rocket kit that I built but never flew

Bunch of plastic model kits that I never started

Bang & Olufsen stereo that I had mostly restored then shelved

Epson Stylus Photo 1200 printer (before they learned to make inkjet photos that looked GOOD)

Epson USB scanner w/transparency adapters (as a slide scanner, meh)

Live steam engine

Weather monitoring station

Books, magazines, DVDs

Cheap metal utility shelving that I got for free

Lots of junk that I can't recall

I sold the cameras, weather instruments, steam engine, the TAM, PS/2+games and the TV set but gave away all other items.

In:

Nintendo Wii

Sony Playstation 3

32" Sharp LCD TV

New camera lens

Ricoh p&s camera

HD DVD player

I upgraded my Linux PC from Athlon64 to Opteron x2

HP LaserJet - first laser printer since my NeXT 400 DPI!

...and I may be buying a new Epson pro photo printer before rebates end next week--should be worlds better than the 1200 it replaces.

Acquisitions: 2 x Macintosh SE, 2x Macintosh Classic, 3x Macintosh Plus, 2x Macintosh Se/30, Apple IIe, powerbook 190cs, powerbook 170, iMac g3

and other non-apples

Greatest find of the year: Apple Lisa 2

Projects:

Connect my macintosh plus to the network with an EN/SC adapter I obtained

Learning 6502 ASM in the Apple II (in progress)

Use my macintosh plus as a web server (part of retrochallenge)
