1GHZ TiBook

that is also helped by the completely false stigma that TiBook's have reliability and build quality issues. The first generation did have its faults, but if you take care of them (like i hope you would take care of a multi-thousand dollar piece of equipment), they can last forever. Hell, I have a fully-functional 500MHz (aka original) model which even still has the original DVD-ROM drive! granted i had to do some surgery to it after its previous owner completely wrecked it, but just to prove my previous statement my 1GHz TiBook which has been in my family's possession all its life is still in perfect physical condition. yes its optical drive failed, which is definitely a con but from a realistic point of view it was the very first super-drive slot-load ever in a laptop, and only a 1X at that. it was SLOW. it seems to me to be completely reasonable to upgrade to an 8X DL burner drive just for the speed advantage (the added speed is not only on burning DVD's, every single read/burn statistic is at least twice as fast as the original drive) if nothing else.

They are also extremely easy to get into, replacing the HD in a TiBook involves about 5 minutes of work if you take your time, which is a stark contrast to the next-gen AlBooks and the current run of MacBook Pro's. They can easily take 10-15 minutes to replace, which doesn't really seem like a big deal but its more than just the added time. You have to undo roughly 3-4x the amount of screws as you did in the TiBook and they are all very small and very soft, making stripping and/or loosing them very easy to do.

There is no denying that the TiBook's do have faults, they do run hot and definitely do not have the most efficient heatsink design ever, in fact its pretty poor as things go, but it does work.

The only real downside to the TiBook is its cooling fan(s). the rear fan on my 1GHz went out about 2 years ago, and i was lucky enough to find a guy in England who happened to have some new replacements at a relatively reasonable price, which i eagerly bought up. Aside from that, I've only been able to find used ones which have worked but being used I have no idea for how long. And they don't often show up used AND working...

So i dunno...maybe i'm biased because i own 3 ( :p ), but i happen to love TiBooks.
