    Latest haul

OK, sorted it out. I hooked the monitor up to the IIsi, and it's running with a screensaver. I originally had it plugged into the 475-for-spares. However, that's got something of an identity crisis going on. I put on the cover I kept back from the LC I had to throw out a while back, but the...

    Latest haul

I've had the monitor running for the past 30 mins or so. Unfortunately, the brightness cannot be turned right down so that the screen is black. That can only be done if I turn the contrast way down. Any ideas?

    Latest haul

The IIsi and all the documentation, peripherals, &c. came from Freecycle, and all of it from one person!! As for the IIci and the UMAX, I brought both of those back from uni, but without the luxury of a car, so I had to lug 15kg of hardware to the train station and then start the uphill...

    Latest haul

Last Sunday, I came back with a monster haul. I've split the list up into sections, to make it easier to navigate ;) Hardware • Macintosh IIsi • Macintosh Color Display • 2x MASS SyQuest drives (one apparently doesn't work) • AppleCD 300 • ADB Keyboard (the original one, plus cable) •...

Just got an LC!... with no monitor.

Yeah, LCs would've shipped with 12" Macintosh RGB displays.

Just got an LC!... with no monitor.

The main casualty was the metal anti-static casing inside the LC's lid – there was a huge rusty patch, where the battery acid had eaten into the casing. There wasn't much left of the battery, other than a corroded lump. The damage to the logic board wasn't particularly extensive, and I managed...

    Another clone to the collection!

Quiksilver G4s can. I have a separate partition for OS 9 on mine – although it's currently empty as OS 9.1 doesn't work. 9.2 is the minimum for Quiksilvers.

    Another clone to the collection!

Yep, it certainly seems to be based on a Starmax 300. The FDD on the Starmax looks like it's a standard PC model with a hard eject button – the New York has a very similar one, except that there is no hard eject. I actually prefer the New York's form to that of the Starmax. Those openings over...

    Another clone to the collection!

As promised, here's a photo. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a StarMax under a different name, seeing that quite a few clones on that site seem to share similar photos – and the StarMax is one of them.

    Another clone to the collection!

Update: The New York is now happily running System 8.5, and it actually has a 2.1 GB hard disk (although this is reduced to 1.9 GB, when formatted) and not a 1.2 GB. I also forgot to mention that it has a built-in 100 MB Zip drive, which is nice. This is my third Macintosh SSW-compatible that...

Just got an LC!... with no monitor.

Congrats! Hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine. When I got an LC off Freecycle, I was overjoyed. Only to discover – after having opened it – that a major PRAM battery explosion had occurred, causing irreparable damage to the ROM chips :(

    MacTV

You could also put it in a black 5500 or 5400 case. But, then again, you could always get a TV card for either of those machines and it'd be like a Mac TV, except 8 times faster ;)

    Another clone to the collection!

I got a ComputerWarehouse New York yesterday. It's by far the most unusual clone I've seen so far. It has a PC-style floppy disk drive and, dig this, two PS/2 ports. That's right, you can actually connect a PC mouse and keyboard to this thing. It also has an SVGA video port, as opposed to the...

    Macintosh TV?!

The keyboard wouldn't be the type that shipped with Mac TVs, though :( When Apple designed the Macintosh TV, their target customers were students who didn't have enough space in their rooms to accommodate, both, a computer and a television set; so they married the two together and shipped it...

    Dvorak Keyboard Layout

I think it'd be too much re-adjustment for me to learn the Dvorak layout. I like impressing my friends by touch typing passwords using the standard QWERTY layout ;D

    12" Monitors for Mac LCs

I've got a 12" RGB Display. As tomlee59 says, CRTs can't develop dead pixels but burning is possible. Perhaps what you think is a dead pixel is in fact a mark someone made with a biro on the screen lol! Unfortunately, the video cable doesn't quite want to sit snugly in my 475's video port, so...

    Color Plus?

Yeah, SEs don't produce colour screens when photographed. I have some photos taken of my SE in poor lighting with my camera 'phone and the screen is decidedly monochrome

Which B&W Compact Mac is the BEST?!?

Looks like I'm the only one to vote for the SE. Like most other peeps, I voted for the one I own. I'm sure the SE/30 pwnz the SE, but I like my SE FDHD lol!! I'd like to get my mitts on something pre-SE or a colour compact Mac, like a Colour Classic. LCs/Performas may be faster than Compacts...
