I've had the monitor running for the past 30 mins or so. Unfortunately, the brightness cannot be turned right down so that the screen is black. That can only be done if I turn the contrast way down. Any ideas?

Congrats! Hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine. When I got an LC off Freecycle, I was overjoyed. Only to discover – after having opened it – that a major PRAM battery explosion had occurred, causing irreparable damage to the ROM chips :(

You could also put it in a black 5500 or 5400 case. But, then again, you could always get a TV card for either of those machines and it'd be like a Mac TV, except 8 times faster ;)

I've got a 12" RGB Display. As tomlee59 says, CRTs can't develop dead pixels but burning is possible. Perhaps what you think is a dead pixel is in fact a mark someone made with a biro on the screen lol! Unfortunately, the video cable doesn't quite want to sit snugly in my 475's video port, so...

Yeah, SEs don't produce colour screens when photographed. I have some photos taken of my SE in poor lighting with my camera 'phone and the screen is decidedly monochrome

Looks like I'm the only one to vote for the SE. Like most other peeps, I voted for the one I own. I'm sure the SE/30 pwnz the SE, but I like my SE FDHD lol!! I'd like to get my mitts on something pre-SE or a colour compact Mac, like a Colour Classic. LCs/Performas may be faster than Compacts...
